A Global Approach to Learning
Silk Road Theatre Project maintains that world myths and stories are an effective tool for inspiring curiosity about other parts of the world, recognizing parallels between cultures, and bridging the differences that divide us. In order for Chicago to retain and strengthen its status as a global city, it needs citizens that are globally aware and culturally savvy. Today’s young people are entering a world in which global literacy and geographic proficiency will be prerequisites to success. The process of instilling global consciousness ought to be a part of on-going school programming. For those schools that don’t have a global education program, Silk Road Theatre Project is pleased to offer “Myths to Drama,” an arts integrated education program.
The ideal school partner will accept “Myths to Drama” on a long term basis, providing consistency, familiarity, and steady growth for the students year after year as “Myths to Drama” is adjusted for each grade level. As these global myths value diversity and celebrate different cultures, participating students are better prepared for today’s multi-ethnic Chicago where there is no single racial majority in the City.
