Myths To Drama
   Global Approach | Integration | Curriculum & Sessions | Learning Goals | Objectives | Video | Testimonials

Learning Goals

Each session exposes the students to a unique perspective, tying back to the myth. The
following chart illustrates learning goals for each of these seven sessions:

Session Focus Learning
Students will attend a presentation of the unit myth performed by the arts
educators, demonstrating the variety of ways in which theatrical presentation
can bring a narrative story to vivid and immediate life.
This session will offer social, political, geographical or scientific overview of
the culture from which the unit myth originated.
The arts educator will detail the religious tradition from which the myth
evolved, creating a context in which to better understand the myth.
Students will participate in a demonstration centering on the given
culture's forms of artistic expression. As much as possible, given the
traditions of the culture in question, this session will focus on performance
practice and visual arts.
Students will participate in a group discussion focusing on the myth's
relevance to their contemporary world. Over the course of the program
students will glean practical experience in group participation and in the
articulation of their own thoughts and ideas.
Students will be guided through a series of exercises selected to provide
practical experience in the performance techniques being examined in the
specific unit. Over the course of the program students will begin to
develop a hands-on familiarity with some basic and essential techniques
employed in theatrical performance.
Students will present and discuss their unit projects before the group. Over
the course of the program students will glean experience working
independently on a long term project and in realizing their own creative
impulses. They will also begin to develop a level of comfort with the public
presentation of themselves and their personal artistic expressions.

The overall effect is to demonstrate that myths and stories are an effective tool for inspiring
curiosity about other parts of the world, recognizing parallels between cultures and
bridging the differences that divide us.
